How do we Know that we Know or don't Know God?

What Bible verse can be used as the ultimate test to validate that grace is reigning in the believer’s life as the Community of the Redeemed living in the Community of Humanity and that they know God?

What Bible verse can be used as the most sobering in the Bible for the “God is love Butters”?

Did anybody come up with 1 John 4:7-8, for the above two questions?

“Everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.”...Answer to Question # 1.

Whoever does not love, does not know God, for God is love.” Answer to Question # 2.

If these verses doesn’t cause you some concern, then you do not literally believe what is written therefore, you do not believe the whole Bible as you claim you do. A literal understanding of these two verses for the ardent...“God is Love Butters”...should cause their knees to shake and their voices to quake! Why? Because if they don’t truly love people,  “THEY ARE NOT OF GOD”.

Think of the most degenerate person you know...the homosexual, the abortionist, the drug dealer, the murderer...that one person that has hurt you and caused you pain and grief. Do you love that person? Think of the fellow Christian who was once you friend that now you despise and has wrote them of as a heretic because he keeps defiling your traditional doctrines by his  grace and love talk. Think about that wicked sinner you hate and claim God hates who deserves to suffer in hell for all eternity, as far as you are concerned. Think about that atheist who hates Christians. Do you love those people the way God loves them? Would you be willing to lay down your time, money, pride and religion to help them? Would you sacrifice yourself to benefit them...Love would!

You may truly believe that Jesus died on the cross and you have said the sinners prayer therefore your sins are forgiven...So what? “Whoever does not love does not know God.”

You may earnestly believe in every single word, letter in the Apostles creed, the Nicene creed, and you denominations Statement of Faith...So what? “Whoever does not love does not know God.”

You may be a Sunday-go-meeting and a Wednesday-go-prayer-meeting person...So what? “Whoever does not love does not know God.”

You may have been baptized in water and baptized with the Holy Spirit as evidenced by your speaking in tongues”...So what? “Whoever does not love does not know God.”

You may tithe more that 10% of your income...So what? “Whoever does not love does not know God.”

You may believe that the Bible is the inspired, incorruptible, inerrant Word of God!”...So what? “Whoever does not love does not know God.”

You may be able to quote the Bible to shoot down people who don’t believe as you do...So what? “Whoever does not love does not know God.”

You may have a string of denominated seminarian degrees behind your name, you may be called pastor, prophet, evangelist, apostle or reverend...So what? “Whoever does not love does not know God.”

You may be a great celebrity preacher...So what? “Whoever does not love does not know God.”

You may study your Bible every single day using the very best of commentaries and intentions...."So what? “Whoever does not love does not know God.”

You may defend the Bible to the death...So what? “Whoever does not love does not know God.”

You may spend hours in prayer and meditation every day...So what? “Whoever does not love does not know God.”

You may be able to judge and condemn people by spouting out-of-context Bible verses...So what? “Whoever does not love does not know God.”

Therefore, for the “God is Love “Butters" this should be the most sobering passage in the Bible, because if John is not lying...and he isn't...then even the most religiously pious-ed or Bible Scholar-ed theologian that people deem Bible experts may not know God and are deceiving the flock who follow them!

However, for people lovers these verses are the ultimate test that Grace reigns in their heart and that they know God!

  1. Here is my thoughts on love for what they are worth.

How do we know That we have love. Some people have the wrong idea about love.

Is it because we agree with everyone? We never disagree but always tell people nice things to sooth their conscience so they may feel good.

There are a few Scriptures that guide us.

#1. 1John 2:15 says Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. This verse shows us whether we have the love of the Father or not.

#2. John 15:10 says If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love. If we are abiding in Love of God we will be keeping His commandments.

How are we to love? As Christ loved. (John 13)
34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.

35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

As we observe ministry of Christ we find that he did and said some things that didn`t seem so loving.

I will just give two examples out of many:

#1. He pronounced a lot of woes such as Mat. 21:15 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.

#2. He turned a lot of people away such as rich young ruler who loved money more than following Christ. What Jesus said to him that caused him to go away sad and grieved was said in love.
21 Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him
22 And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions.

Some of us who fit the description that you have described above:

You may truly believe that Jesus died on the cross and you have said the sinners prayer therefore your sins are forgiven...So what?

    You may be a Sunday-go-meeting and a Wednesday-go-prayer-meeting person...So what?

You may believe that the Bible is the inspired, incorruptible, inerrant Word of God!”...So what?

Have to make some important decisions that sometimes don`t seem like we are loving but we are obeying what the grace preacher Paul said.

    Two examples are:
#1. 2 Thess. 3:6 Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us.

#2. 2 Thess.3:14,15 14 And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed.

15 Yet count him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.

The commands of Paul are just as important as commands of Christ for Paul received them from Christ. So by following Paul as Paul followed Christ we may have to do some things that will make us look like we are not loving. So you cannot judge a person by what he does to prove whether he is loving or not. You have to know his heart and only Christ can judge a man`s heart.

  2. You may follow Paul...SO WHAT? “Whoever does not LOVE does NOT KNOW God.”

    1. Any proof that I know God is the love I have for Him for what He has done for this wretched, vile sinner on the cross of Calvary. To know I'm forgiven, and to have the peace that passes understanding, to know He no longer sees me as a sinner but a saint. I am a failure showing love in the flesh (there is no good thing in the flesh). Liberated from the bondage of the law. I have been jumping for joy for nearly 9 years of peace, joy, thankfulness.
