Knowing the Bible.
Knowing the Bible has some value, however, knowledge will never conform us to the image of Christ, which is the desire of Father God. Without the living Word living in us conforming, transforming and working through us, all the intellectual knowledge of the Bible will not cause spiritual growth.
To find believers who are taught by religious ordained professionals who teach what they believe, the doctrines and traditions of their particular denominational persuasion are easy to find. They even claim that their teaching is based on the clear teachings of the Word of God, meaning the Bible, not Jesus Christ the Word. The deception here is that there are thousands of different religious groups who do not agree on their understanding of "the clear teachings of the Bible", each interprets the Bible in light of their denominational beliefs rather than allowing the scripture to formulate their belief...that is why they are of different denominational persuasions.
The apostles were mandated to teach people to observe all that Jesus commanded them. They were to teach what Jesus said in words to them and what they saw Jesus doing by His example.
Jesus never ever told His disciples to instruct people to make "church" members of denominational groups, but to make disciples of Christ. All that goes on in religious churches today, teaching catechisms, psychology, hermeneutics, homiletics, church history, denominational doctrines are the beliefs of denominational groups. He also did not instruct them to teach the Bible, for there was no book known as the Bible as there is today.
In John 17, Jesus un-mistakenly tells us that His Words are the Word of God He wants us to keep.
Verse 6, I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy WORD. (Was God's Word here the Bible?)
Verse 8, For I have given unto them thy WORDS which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me. (Was God's Words here the Bible?)
Verse 14, I have given them thy WORD; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. (Was God's word here the Bible.)
John 5:39-40
39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
40 And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.
In treating the Bible as the Word of God rather than Jesus Himself we fail to grasp the truth that Jesus and His teachings are what the New Testament calls the Word of God and we will not correctly understand what we are reading. Mere knowledge of the Bible and being able to quote Bible verses does not make us more like Jesus. It is being obedient to His Words that will bring spiritual growth.
When Peter wrote telling us to "desire the pure milk of the Word:, he was not referring to the Bible, for there was no Bible in existence when He said that.
