Is the Bible a LAW Book?
We
have a lot of people who are self-proclaimed "doctrinal police" who
believe that God has badged them to defend what they deem to be correct
doctrine and to discredit with "proof texts" shot from their condemning
firearm (mouth), the doctrines that does not line up with their
perceived correct doctrine. They use this "proof texting" not only to
kill what they propose to be incorrect doctrine, but also validate their
"perceived correct" doctrine. This is the main focus of the "doctrinal
police" bible reading and study.
The
bible is not a "law book" for doctrinal police to find laws to
establish or substantiate their version of interpretation of scripture
and accuse other people's interpretation as being againt the law that
they found and interpreted to validate their "correct interpretation."
If
we use the bible for that purpose, then our use is misuse, our
understanding is misunderstanding and our interpretation is
misinterpretation.
The centrality of the bible is Christ. Therefore, the nature of divine revelation is Christocentric not doctrine-centric.
The bible has one REVELATION...that REVELATION is JESUS CHRIST!
Therefore,
the proper interpretation of any text will always lead us to discover
more of Christ thus, more of God and His purpose for the community of
the redeemed in the community of humanity. Our focus on bible reading
and study is to discover Jesus. When using the bible for the purpose of
doctrinal validation without focusing on Jesus we can make the bible to
validate our man-made doctrines and feel justified in doing so. This
does not mean that the doctrine is right, it may mean the scripture ts
twisted to support false doctrine.
The true interpretation of scripture is in the contextual study of the bible to determine a revelation of Jesus in the text.
