Is hell mentioned in the Bible?
Yesterday an individual asked concerning the post "Is Hell Fire one of the riches in Christ? The question was...Is it (hell) mentioned in the Bible?
The premise I used for the title of the piece was Eph. 3:8-12; Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ; And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ: To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God, According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord: In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him.
I then followed it up with the "burning" question... Is the doctrine of eternal burning and suffering in a torture chamber of Hell Fire one of the unsearchable riches of Christ or to be known by people as a part of the manifold wisdom of God? If not, why is it such a predominate damning doctrine in Christendom?
Though hell is spoken of repeatedly in some translations of the Bible including the revered KJV, Yet hell doesn’t seem consistent with the theme of the parables of Christ in Luke 15, nor is it consistent with the letters of Paul, and it is not consistent with the character of Christ nor the character of God that Christ came to reveal. Now, Paul was given by Christ the Gospel of Grace for the express purpose of preaching the unsearchable riches of Christ and to make ALL men see what is the fellowship of the mystery. Where was this mystery? Hid in God. This mystery was hid in God "until the time was ripe"...ripe for what...to let the principalities and powers in heavenly places might know this mystery, how were they to know the mystery? By the Church, the (Community of the Redeemed), according to the eternal purpose of God.
What is the eternal purpose of God? That ALL men would be drawn unto Christ and be reconciled unto God through the finished cross-work of Christ's death, resurrection and ascension.
The doctrine of hell fire tells us that the vast majority mankind, that God failed to reconcile All people unto Himself, that Christ failed to complete the work that His loving Father God sent Him to do and that Satan ends up the victor over God because he ends up with the VAST MAJORITY OF GOD"S CREATED CROWING GLORY (MAN) IN THE BBQ PIT OF HELL WHERE HE TORMENTS THEM FOR EVER AND EVER!Therefore this doctrine of hell goes against the eternal purpose of God, is not a part of the unsearchable riches in Christ, the Gospel of Grace that was given to Paul by Christ because Christ took upon Himself the sin of the world...God has dealt with the sin issue once and for all! The purpose of the redeemed is to bring this "Good News" to the Community of Humanity so they will turn away (repent) from sin and follow Christ. The fear-mongering doctrine of Hell is NOT the message that Christ gave to Paul or taught to those labeled as "sinners". But because the religious leaders of His day taught these "scum sinning sinners" were hell bound and they did not recognize Christ as the Messiah who would save All men, He told them that the preaching of their gospel and doctrine would make them a child of hell then the thought the "sinning sinners" were.
Many of us recoil with discuss that a loving God who created All people out of love and All are His loved children, would create them knowing that the vast majority of them would suffer burning in Hell Fire for ever! When you question any Believer, they will admit that they desire for everyone to be saved and they cannot truly and sincerely understand why a loving all powerful God would create such an alternative that pits Him has a sadist torturer that would torture the people He lovingly created for eternity. But read a lot of Bible translation and there the hell it s...hell, in all its glowing glory....fire and brimstone, its everlasting torture and torment. That is not of God godly...it is of the Devil devilish!
Hell is diametrically opposed with the character of God our loving Father, who asks us to forgive all our enemies as many times as necessary, and who tells us that He is LOVE and His “love does not fail”...could it be that the translators of the Bible got it wrong regarding hell?
I wonder what is the reason why some Bible translations don’t even use the word “hell” in themin the context of everlasting punishment?
Is it possible that religion has been misguided people into believing lies about the character and intent of our loving heavenly Father to where the lies became incorporated into the Bible translations as truth?
Is the doctrine of hell a primary part of the Gospel message to be preached by the Church?
Is it possible that the hell fire doctrine formation and traditional teachings is the product of man?
Would it be so anti-God to concede that there might be a context that differs from the one that is accepted as orthodox truth now.
Isn't it time that in light of the character and image of God that we see through the life and teachings of Christ...God's express image...we should reexamine the tradition hell fire and brimstone doctrine?
