Is There a Time When the Bible is the Wrong Source for Divine Guidance?

Every believer that is the salt of the earth realizes the vital role of the scripture in life application. However, what is seldom understood by Bible Idolators is that unless people's hearts are in tune to the Spirit giving the written word life, a thorough Bible knowledge and deep reverence for the Bible will lead to Bible Idolization and misinterpretation. The Bible without the Spirit's infusion is just another letter bound book of knowledge that when read and interpreted mistakenly will lead people wrongly!

The devil used the scripture of God wrongly to tempt Jesus...the Living Word of God. It was central to his plot to lure the Son of God from His Divine Mission.

It was scripture used wrongly that convinced devout religious law scholars that Jesus was a demon-possessed madman that should be killed for the good of the nation. No doubt, it was also Saul's wrong religious knowledge of Scripture that played a role in firing him up to kill the followers of Christ, thinking that he was doing the will of God. There are so many people today doing the religious will of man...all the while thinking they are doing the will of God because they have interpreted the Bible wrongly!

Bible knowledge can be spiritual wealth that leads to great spiritual gain...it can also lead to spiritual pain. Also when someone knowledge's them-self in the Bible to gain material wealth and spiritual elitism, it brings great pain, not only to those who are fleeced by it, but also to the spiritual destruction of those using its knowledge to gain material wealth. However, keep in mind that wealth...whether spiritual or material...tests a person’s character and many a man has gone of the deep end because of it.

Believers of integrity will do their utmost to avoid misinterpreting the scriptures, however, need to realize thatt feeling confused and incapable of correctly interpreting God’s Word is a vital leg of one’s journey to interpreting it correctly because it opens them up to hearing from God.

The self-claimed bible knowledgeable, religious spiritual elite, who claim to have all the bible answers to the problems of life are the ones least likely to have the correct interpretation and the ones least likely to hear from God according to Jesus:

Matthew 11:25; “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. . . .”

Those who are spiritually wise in their own eyes are in grave danger of spiritual blindness and deception.

1 Corinthians 3:18-20; Do not deceive yourselves. If any one of you thinks he is wise by the standards of this age, he should become a “fool” so that he may become wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight. As it is written: “He catches the wise in their craftiness”; and again, “The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile.”

On the other hand, wondrous possibilities emerge for people with the humility to realize their “ways are not God's ways” and that their foolishness...the natural human blindness to spiritual things...and their need of the Spirit of Truth's help in understanding biblical truth:

Psalm 25:9; He guides the humble . . . and teaches them his way.

Even someone so spiritual and knowledgeable that he actually wrote part of the Bible, recognized his own need to pray for understanding of scripture:

Psalms 119:18; Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law.

An intellectual approach to the Bible, no matter how studious and informed, is the way of deception.

1 Corinthians 2:14; The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.

Discerning biblical truth either takes us to the height of spiritual intimacy with God, or we will drift into the deception and delusions of religion, no matter how much, like the devout scholars in Jesus’ day, we think ourselves to be the epitome of religious orthodoxy.

Countless thousands of sincere, scripture-loving Jews longing for their Messiah rejected Jesus as their Savior because He did not match their scripture-based...yes! scripture-based...preconceptions. Much of their misunderstanding was due to wanting to be delivered from overwhelming problems was greater than their longing to be delivered from their sin. Today, much of the misunderstanding and misinterpretation is due to wanting to validate denominational man-made doctrines and rituals.

Spiritual reality must have spiritual compatibility. The validity of this truth is that: evil spirits were far better at knowing who Jesus was, than were all the religious priests, religious spiritual leaders and all religious scripture scholars combined. Demons knew in an instant what the best theological minds could not figure out about Jesus.

The important step towards finding the mind of God on any issue is to recognize that insights into spiritual matters will not be attained merely by denominated intellectual process of studying the relevant Scriptures and reaching one’s own conclusion and interpretation as to what they mean. There must be a humble recognition of one’s dependence on the Spirit’s illumination of the written word.

The Bible is a source of wrong spiritual guidance when you do not know its purpose by seeking guidance from it based only on a religious and mental accent that is void of Holy Spirit infusion and illumination.

  1. I agree with you that the Bible can be misused. That's why it important for us to be led by Spirit and heed the warning of Paul when he told us to be on guard because he said there are those who wrest the Scriptures to their own destruction.

If we listen to them we will be deceived with them and share in their destruction.

There are those who wrest the Scriptures to try to prove to us that there is no hell and give the false hope that everyone will be saved. They would have us believe that Hitler is now in heaven if we are foolish enough to believe it.
